2023 closed with a new Colombian film directed by Rodrigo Triana and produced by Dago García Producciones. The story is about Miguel Benítez, a successful man wrongly accused of money laundering and conspiracy to commit a crime, who is sent to prison. After his release, Miguel returns to live with his mother in the poor neighborhood where he grew up, gets a job in a store, and meets his childhood friends, who still maintain the micro-soccer team. Miguel decides to train them and show the talent they have. The plot teaches that losing is one of the most important lessons in life because it shows the value of generosity, love, and friendship.
ATmedios produced the Spanish audio description for this 98-minute film, which is available on Prime Video.
Reasons why OTT platforms are including audio descriptions:
- Accessibility: Over-the-top platforms and applications seek to be more inclusive for all users, including people with visual impairment or low vision. Audio description allows these people to enjoy movies and series on equal terms.
- Regulatory compliance: In some countries, such as Spain, audiovisual communication service providers are required by law to offer a percentage of their content with audio description.
- Public demand: As technology advances, the number of people using audio descriptions will likely continue to increase because it adds value to the content and makes it available to a broader audience. Audio description also helps people with certain cognitive disabilities who have difficulty understanding what is happening visually.
- Subscription: This can be a deciding factor for users to subscribe to a particular OTT platform.
