This app will make movies accessible to the visual and the hearing impaired using tablets and smart phones.
During the last two years, with support from private and public companies, ATmedios has made short and feature films accessible for the visual and the hearing impaired through audio description, closed caption and Colombian Sign Language.
Searching for new tools that make audiovisual content accessible, ATmedios recently signed an agreement with Whatscine, a Spanish company established in Madrid, to bring to Colombia a new technology that will allow the visual and hearing impaired to enjoy films independently.
"Whatscine developed the app with Carlos the Third University from Madrid, making the cinema accessible by allowing people with visual impairments to hear the film´s audio description, connecting their earphones to their mobile device, without interfering the other attendees' experience and it also allows the hearing impaired to see the sign language on special glasses or see the subtitles in their tablets or smart phones" the developer tells us.
The viewer may download Whatscine on any iOs or Android phone for free. Once the viewer enters the cinema, he/she may chose the desired accessibility tool to help them enjoy the film, which has been previously adapted with audio description, closed caption and/or sign language and synchronized with the film's audio using this application.
ATmedios will soon launch this application for use in cinemas.
We firmly believe that the use of these new technologies supports the inclusion and the access to culture in our country.
