Sinopsis:
The plot follows the life of Oscar Restrepo, a poet consumed by obsession, addictions, and depression, whose erratic existence changes when he meets a teenage girl with literary talent. Guiding her on her creative path becomes a way of redeeming his own frustrations. However, it also involves the temptation of dragging her into the darker realms of urban poetry in Medellín.
"A Poet" joins the list of titles competing to represent Colombia at the 2026 Oscar Awards and the 2025 Goya Awards. The final decision of the Colombian Film Academy will be announced in the coming weeks.
The film is already available in various cities of the country in Procinal and Cinecolombia theaters.
Voices behind accessibility
The accessibility team highlighted the challenges and lessons learned from the process:
- Opinion of the Colombian sign language interpreter:"Preparing the film was an intense challenge; we accomplished it in just two days. To ensure accuracy, we consulted with deaf people, fellow interpreters, and with internet sources".
- Opinion of the subtitling team: "Our goal was for the subtitles to not only convey the dialogue, but also the sonic nuances that add to the atmosphere of the story. We wanted the deaf audience to have an immersive experience."
- Opinion of the audiodescription team: "We worked on a parallel script so that people who are blind or have low vision could follow the story. It was key to narrate the visuals without interrupting the narrative rhythm of the film".
